_lG

TUESDAY

JULY 28. 1970

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, was held Tuesday, July 28, 1970, in the Council Chamber, City Hall,

beginning at 7:30 P.M., the following members being present: Francis T.

West, Vice Mayor, presiding in the absence of Mayor F. T. Renick (who was

out of town on vacation); Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D.

Hobson.

After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular

meeting held July 14, 1970.

Council acknowledged receipt of the Planning Commission's report dated July

24, 1970, pertaining to the G. C. Salmons petition (filed April 14, 1970)

requesting the rezoning from "R-9 Residential" to "R-6 Residential" of his

twelve-acre tract of land between East Church Street and Mountain Road and,

also, requesting a special-use permit to allow him to develop a Mobile Home

Court on this tract. In its report, the Commission recommended that the

rezoning request be granted and, too, that the special-use permit be issued,

subject to certain specifications and conditions set forth by the Commission.

In tentative acceptance of the Commission's recommendations, Council called for

a duly-advertised public hearing on said petition to be conducted by Council

at its forthcoming August 25th meeting.

Having been informed that the Planning Commission can take no action upon the

R. H. Wimbish Corporation petition--filed with Council July 14th and referred

that date to the Commission--requesting water service for petitioner's Mount

Olivet Court Subdivision adjoining Woodland Heights, outside the City's

corporate limits, until Council indicates that it will grant petitioner's

request. Mr. R. H. Wimbish, President of the R. H. Wimbish Corporation,
