B8

TUESDAY

MAY 26, 1970

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, May 26,

1970, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members

being present, viz., F. T. Renick, M.D., Mayor; Francis T. West, Vice Mayor;

Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson.

After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular

meeting held May 12, 1970.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing

on the February 24th petition--subsequently approved by the Planning

Commission--of American Standard Homes Corporation, requesting an "M-3

Industrial" zoning of the J. L. Beckner property situated in north Martinsville

on Stultz Road, fronting the right-of-way of the Carolina & Northwestern

Railway Company and adjoining the Roy Stone Trucking complex. There being

no objections registered by anyone to this proposed rezoning, Council effected

same through the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Code and Map:

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia
in regular meeting assembled this twenty-sixth day of May, 1970,
that the Zoning Ordinance and the Zoning Map of the City of
Martinsville be--and are hereby--amended to reclassify to IIM-3
Industrial" all of that property identified as the "J. L. Beckner
Property", in north Martinsville, being that fronting the
Carolina & Northwestern Railway Company's right-of-way and lying
south of Stultz Road and adjoining the Roy Stone Trucking Company
complex.

After some discussion, Council deferred action on the H. L. Nunn Grocery

license tax petition, presented at Council's May 12th meeting, pending

a recommended revision of the License Tax Ordinance, to be prepared by

City Attorney Cubine, in anticipation of up-dating and re-publishing said

ordinance.
