<br />E <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 12, 1970 <br /> <br />",-, <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, May 12, <br /> <br />1970, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Francis T. West, Vice-Mayor; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held April 28, 1970. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on a proposal to rezone previously-zoned IIR-9" properties fronting Cabell <br /> <br />Street to "C-3 Commercial", including Lots Nos. 13 through 18 owned by Woodmen <br /> <br />of the World (Camp 48) for which a "C-3" zoning was requested by this organi- <br /> <br />zation in its petition dated January 22, 1970. There being no objections <br /> <br />registered by anyone to this proposal, which carried the Planning Commissionts <br /> <br />approval, Council effected said requested and proposed rezoning by means of <br /> <br />the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Code and Zoning Map: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twelfth day of May, 1970, that the <br />Zoning Ordinance and the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be-- <br />and are hereby--amended to reclassify to "C-3 Commercial" all <br />property fronting Cabell Street heretofore zoned "R-9 Residentialll. <br /> <br />Pursuant to the request of the Planning Commission, in order to expedite <br /> <br />processing of the Piedmont Trust Bank's April 14th petition--on behalf of <br /> <br />the Whitney Shumate Estate--requesting the closing of a portion of "Ell Street, <br /> <br />between Fifth Street and Roundabout Road, Council directed that a joint and <br /> <br />duly-advertised public hearing be conducted by the Council and the <br /> <br />Commission on this petition at Council's forthcoming June 9th meeting. <br />
