<br />256 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MARCH 26, 1974 <br /> <br />Martinsville City Council met in regular session at 7:30 P. M. on March 26, 1974, in <br /> <br />Council Chambers at City Hall, with Mayor West presiding and with all members present, <br /> <br />as follows: Mayor Francis T. West; Vice Mayor H. L. Boaz; W. D. Hartford, W. D. Hobson <br /> <br />and Morton W. Lester. <br /> <br />Minutes of the meeting of March l2 were approved. <br /> <br />U' 'fl' <br />In connection a "Task Force on Aging", a sub-agency of the West Piedmont Planning <br />t'- <br /> <br />District Commission, which is being organized with the general goal of enhancing the <br /> <br />life styles of the aging, from all walks of life, Council gave consideration to the <br /> <br />naming of two citizen members to this committee, to represent the City. On motion, <br /> <br />made, and carried unanimously, Mr. John R. Kirk and Mr. Henry Ramsey were designated <br /> <br />as the City's representatives, without a definite term of membership. <br /> <br />Council gave consideration to the proposed budgets of the City's Commissioner of the <br /> <br />Revenue, City Treasurer, Commonwealth Attorney and City Sheriff, all four elected <br /> <br />officials being present at the meeting. Pointing out that the State Compensation Board <br /> <br />is the agency which actually sets the salaries of these officers and their staffs, <br /> <br />Council authorized that the State Board be advised that the City, by its action at <br /> <br />this meeting, gives its approval to the budgets as proposed. <br /> <br />There was accepted for placing in order for consideration in the new fiscal year a <br /> <br />petition that the City construct curb and gutter on North Street, the petition for street <br /> <br />improvement having been signed by thirteen citizens of that street. <br /> <br />Consideration was given to a written request from Mr. S. J. Fuller that the City permit <br /> <br />him to extend a water line which would serve real estate he owns, and on which he plans <br /> <br />to build a home, just outside the city limits between the end of Mulberry Road and the <br />
