<br />') '-:l <br />~/' ! <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 12, 1974 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P. M., all members--with the exception of Councilman <br /> <br />with Mayor Francis T. West presiding, was held Tuesday, February 12, 1974, in the Council <br /> <br />William D. Hobson; and Morton W. Lester. <br /> <br />W. D. Hartford--being present, viz., Francis T. West, Mayor; Harry L. Boaz, Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved, as recorded, the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held January 22, 1974. <br /> <br />"R-9 Residential" to "R-6 Residential" of that property consisting of approximately 2.23 <br /> <br />filed November 27, 1973 by Bennett & Wilson, Inc., Realtors, requesting the rezoning from <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a request <br /> <br />acres and located on the east side of Fairy Street Extension across from the Martinsville <br /> <br />Senior High School tennis courts. There being no opposition expressed or registered to <br /> <br />this proposed rezoning and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that <br /> <br />said request be granted, Council adopted the following ordinance effecting said requested <br /> <br />rezoning and amending the City's Zoning Map accordingly: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular <br />meeting assembled this twelfth day of February, 1974, that the City's Zoning <br />Map be--and is hereby--amended so as to effect an rrR-6 Residential" zoning of <br />that property, consisting of approximately 2.23 acres, located on the east <br />side of Fairy Street Extension and situated opposite or across from the present <br />Martinsville High School tennis courts. <br /> <br />Council was informed by the Planning Commission that at said Commission's meeting held <br /> <br />February 5, 1974, Mr. Jerry S. Chaney withdrew his petition filed October 9, 1973 requesting <br /> <br />the rezoning of Lot No. 33 (from "C-3 Commercial" to "R-9 Residential") situated on Boden <br /> <br />Street. <br /> <br />In acknowledging a report from the Planning Commission pertaining to an application for a <br /> <br />Special-Use Permit filed by East Gate Development Corporation to allow said corporation <br /> <br />to construct an apartment complex on property located on Chatham Road, approximately 800 <br />
