<br />208 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 8, 1974 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Martinsville City Council was held in Council <br /> <br />Chambers at 7:30 P. M. on January 8, 1974, with Mayor West presiding. Members present <br /> <br />were: Mayor Francis T. West, Vice-Mayor H. L. Boaz, W. D. Hartford, W. D. Hobson and <br /> <br />Morton W. Lester. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular meeting of December 11, 1973, and of the called meeting held <br /> <br />on December 20, 1973, were approved with corrections. <br /> <br />Council considered a recommendation of the City Planning Commission, to the effect that <br /> <br />pursuant to the Commissions's duly advertised public hearing, it had recommended that <br /> <br />Council rezone, from R-9 Residential to R-6 Residential, approximately 2.7 acres of land <br /> <br />fronting the east side of Fairy Street opposite the Martinsville High School tennis courts. <br /> <br />On motion made and properly carried, Council directed that legal notice be given of City <br /> <br />Council's public hearing on the rezoning proposal, to be held at its regular meeting <br /> <br />scheduled for February 12. <br /> <br />Consideration was given to a written petition of Community Methods, Inc. of Virginia <br /> <br />Beach, Virginia, that City Council grant a six months extension, which six months would <br /> <br />expire on August 22, 1974, of the Special Use Permit which had been granted by the City <br /> <br />on August 23, 1972, for the construction of the Spruce Square Apartments on Spruce <br /> <br />Street at its intersection with Auburn Place. The City Planning Commission, having <br /> <br />already considered the petition and having formally recommended to Council that the six <br /> <br />months extension be granted, motion was made, seconded and duly carried, that the original <br /> <br />Special Use Permit be extended for six months, to expire on August 22, 1974. <br /> <br />After consideration of a lease agreement which had been prepared by the City Attorney, <br /> <br />between Lucille A. Weaver, lessor, and the City of Martinsville, Council, on motion made, <br />
