p"
,j.

TUESDAY APRIL 10, 1973

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor Francis T. West presiding, was held Tuesday, April 10, 1973,

beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, all members being

present, viz., Mayor Francis T. West; Harry L. Boaz, Vice Mayor; W. Donald Hartford;

William D. Hobson; and Morton W. Lester.

After the invocation, Council approved--as read--the minutes of its regular meeting

held March 27, 1973, and of its special meetings held March 29, 1973, and April 2,

1973.

Vice-Mayor Boaz brought to Council's attention the fact that Mr. D. Accordingly, Council unanimously authorized Mr.

Hanel to file an amended request for a 5~% salary increase (for 1973-1974) for

himself .

Vice-Mayor Boaz, Chairman of a Special Committee appointed to consider a request

(filed last year) for "free" bus service for all local school students, presented

his committee's report in which was recommended that the City, through its budget,

finance the cost of transporting those indigent school children who do not live

within a reasonable walking distance from the schools to which they are assigned.

The committee also recommended that determination of eligibility (of those who
