<br />rrn <br />~~0 <br /> <br />WEDNESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 1, 1976 <br /> <br />Pursuant to Section 5 of Chapter 2 of the Charter of the City of Martinsvi11e, <br /> <br />Virginia, an organizational meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvi11e, <br /> <br />Virginia, was held Wednesday~ September 1, 1976, in the Council Chamber, City <br /> <br />Hall, beginning at 9:00 A.M., for the purpose of administering the required <br /> <br />oaths of office to members of Council duly elected at the municipal councilmanic <br /> <br />election held May 4, 1976, for terms beginning September 1, 1976, said members <br /> <br />being Messrs. William D. Hobson (re-e1ected), L. D. Oakes, and Francis T. West; <br /> <br />and for the purpose of electing a Mayor and Vice-Mayor for two-year terms <br /> <br />beginning September 1, 1976. All members of Council were present, viz., <br /> <br />G. S. Fitz-Hugh, Jr., Barry A. Greene, William D. Hobson, L. D. Oakes, and <br /> <br />Francis T. West. Presiding was Mr. Jesse D. Clift, Clerk of Martinsvi11e <br /> <br />City Circuit Court. <br /> <br />After the stating of the purpose of this meeting by Mr. Clift, the <br /> <br />invocation was given by the Reverend George E. Packard, Rector of Christ <br /> <br />Episcopal Church~ Martinsvil1e, Virginia. <br /> <br />Messrs. Hobson, Oakes and West then subscribed to the required oath(s) of <br /> <br />office, administered by Mr. Clift. <br /> <br />Upon invitation by the presiding officer for nominations for the position <br /> <br />of Mayor, for a two-year term beginning September 1, 1976~ Councilman <br /> <br />Oakes nominated Councilman West and Councilman Greene nominated Councilman <br /> <br />Fitz-Hugh. There being no other nominations, the recorded vote was Councilmen <br />
