'~"'1

t

TUESDAY

JULY 22, 1975

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,

with Vice-Mayor William D. Hobson presiding in the absence of Mayor Harry L. Boaz (who

was recently injured in a motor vehicle accident), was held Tuesday, July 22, 1975, in

the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., (and with) all members--with

the exception of Mayor Boaz--being present, viz., William D. Hobson, Vice Mayor;

G. S. Fitz-Hugh, Jr.; Barry A. Greene; and Morton W. Lester.

After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting

held July 8, 1975.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on an

application for a Special-Use Permit, as filed April 22, 1975 by Mr. Glen D. Powell, Jr.,

requesting said Permit to allow for the construction by applicant of a ten-unit apartment

building on Smith Lake Road (Parcel "B"), off Forest Street. Said application having been

approved by the Planning Commission (on June 19, 1975), and there being no objections

registered thereto by anyone, Council unanimously (upon motion, duly seconded) approved

said application and granted said Permit.

After acknowledging receipt of the Planning Commission's report and recommendation dated

July 18, 1975, in which the Commission recommended that Council rezone from "R-9 Residential"

to "M-3 Industrial" that property situated on the east side of Rives Road (Extension) at

its intersection with Drewry Road, as requested by the owner, Nationwide Homes, Inc., under

date of May 27, 1975 (replacing similar petition withdrawn on same date), Council called for

a duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted on this requested rezoning at Council's

forthcoming August 26th meeting.
