<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 8, 1975 <br /> <br />r""'- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor Harry L. Boaz presiding, was held Tuesday, July 8, 1975, in <br /> <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., with the following <br /> <br />members being present: Harry L. Boaz, Mayor; William D. Hobson, Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />Morton W. Lester; and Barry A. Greene. Councilman G. S. Fitz-Hugh, Jr., was <br /> <br />absent because of another engagement. <br /> <br />~- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held June 24, 1975. <br /> <br />Before proceeding with its regular order of business, Council recognized and <br /> <br />extended a cordial welcome to Dr. O. Lawrence Burnette, recently-appointed <br /> <br />Executive Director of the West Piedmont Planning District Commission, succeeding <br /> <br />Colonel Walter E. Mather, resigned. <br /> <br />Council deferred, for consideration in Executive Session, its consideration of <br /> <br />naming an appointee to the Advisory Housing Committee of the West Piedmont <br /> <br />Planning District Commission, having received some indication that the incumbent, <br /> <br />Mr. Clyde L. Williams, desires not to be reappointed. <br /> <br />Council scheduled its 1975 (annual) tour of streets. in connection with petitions <br /> <br />on file requesting construction of curb-and-gutter and/or sidewalk, for Thursday, <br /> <br />July lO, 1975, beginning at 12:45 P.M., following which tour, as agreed upon by <br /> <br />Council, members of Council would meet in the main lobby of City Hall at 4:30 P.M. <br /> <br />for the presentation by the Martinsville Exchange Club of a "Freedom Shrine", at <br /> <br />which time the Honorable A. L. Philpott, member of the House of Delegates of the <br />
