. 'r)
~/f~

TUESDAY

JUNE 24, 1975

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor H. L. Boaz presiding, was held Tuesday, June 24, 1975,

in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members of

Council being present, viz., Harry L. Boaz, Mayor; William D. Hobson,

Vice-Mayor; G. S. Fitz-Hugh, Jr.; Barry A. Greene; and Morton W. Lester.

After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its

regular meeting held June 10, 1975, and of its special meeting held June 19,

1975.

By report dated June 20, 1975, the Martinsville Planning Commission recommended

that Council grant a Special-Use Permit (for which application was filed with

Council on April 22, 1975) to Mr. Glen D. Powell, Jr., to allow for the

construction of a ten-unit apartment building on property identified as Smith

Lake Road "Parcel B", off Forest Street. In tentative acceptance of the Planning

Commission's recommendation, Council called for a duly-advertised Public Hearing

to be conducted on this application at Council's regular meeting scheduled for

July 22, 1975.

Council unanimously appointed the following citizens to the following adjuncts of

the West Piedmont Planning District Commission:

(a) Mr. Frank T. Gravely (to succeed himself) and Mr. Joseph T. Finley
(replacing Mrs. Emily Young, resigned) to the Drug Abuse Council
for three-year terms;
(b) Mr. J. Randolph Smith, Jr., Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for
the City, for a three-year term on the Criminal Justice Advisory
Committee, succeeding the Honorable J. English Ford, J&DR Court
Judge;
(c) Mr. George Adams, to succeed himself, for a three-year term on
the Transportation & Land-Use Committee;
