TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2:3, 1999 <br />A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor Dr. Mark A. <br /> <br />Crabtree presiding, was held Tuesday, November 23, 1999, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at <br />7:00 P.M. The following members of Council were present: Dr. Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene <br />Teague, Vice-Mayor; Bruce H.T. Dallas, and Terry L. Roop. Elizabeth H. Haskell was away from the City. <br /> <br />After the invocation, provided by Mayor Crabtree and followed by Mayor Crabtree's cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council moved upon motion duly seconded, with all members voting: Vote 4-0; Yeas <br /> <br />(4)- Crabtree, Teague, Dallas, Roop; Nays (0)- None; Absent (1) - Haskell, as amended, the Minutes of the <br />November 8, 1999, and November 9, 1999 meetings. <br /> <br />Council members publicly recognized City Employee Marshall L. Claybrooks for receipt of the Martinsville <br />Area Disabilities Employment Network (MADEN) Employee of the Year Award. This award is given by <br />MADEN yearly to employees with disah'lities who have overcome obstacles to remain employed as <br />productive members of the work force. Mr. Claybrooks works at the City Landfill and was nominated by left <br />Joyce and Leon Towamicki for consideration in selection of this Award. <br /> <br />Mayor Crabtree next opened the meeting to Business from the Floor. No business was brought from the floor <br /> <br />to Council. <br /> <br />Council next considered conducting a Public Heating on the disposal of City-owned real estate known as Lot 34 of <br />Railway Street by the conveyance of the same at public or private sale. City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr. <br />commented that the City has no plans for use of this small parcel of land, and' the. Pflbh'~,,Hearing would allow the <br />City to negotiate possible disposal should someone be interested in purchasing it. The Public Heating was opened. <br />No comments were made. The Public Hearing was closed. Council opted not to take any action; therefore, the <br /> <br />City may dispose of the property. <br /> <br /> <br />
