TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1988 · <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthlY meeting of the Council of the City of Marttnsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, October 25, 1988, <br />in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M- All members of <br />Council were present, viz., L. D- Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams,'Vice'MaY°r; <br />William C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome to visitors <br />present, Council unanimously approved the recorded minutes of its regular <br />meeting held October 11, 1988, after directing the deletion of the reference <br />therein (at Councilman Cole's request, on page 349 of said minutes) to Mr. Cole <br />as Chairman of the Virginia Municipal League's Subcommittee on Freedom-of' <br /> <br />information- <br /> <br />In the absence of City Manager George W. Brown, who was attending the 1988 <br />conference of the international City Managers Association in Charlotte, North <br />Carolina, Mayor Oakes presented the various agenda matters for Council's <br /> <br />consideration and/or action- <br /> <br />Mr. Timothy Cahill, in writing and in person, presented evidence to Council <br />that, as of October 13, 1988, he purchased 100% of the outstanding shares of <br />capital stock in Martinsville phillies professional Baseball, Inc., from Mr. <br />Dennis Bastien and is now president of the corporation (which is the operator, <br />but not the owner, of the Martinsville phillies) and, as such, Mr- Cahill is <br />the corporation's sole stockholder- In this purchase, Mr. Cahill further <br />stated, he acquired all assets of the company, including all covenants and <br />agreements in force, including that with the City of Martinsville- Mr. Cahill <br />indicated, too, that he is quite pleased with the public support of the <br /> <br /> <br />
