TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1991 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council.of the City~of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor Allan McClain presiding, was held Tuesday, December 10, <br />1991,~ beginning at 7:30 P.M. Members of Council present were: Allan <br />McClain, Mayor; Alfred T. Groden, Vice-Mayor; George B. Adams, Jr.; and Clyde <br />L. Williams. Absent was Councilman L. D. Oakes, who was away from the City. <br /> <br />Afterthe invocation, followed by Mayor McClain's cordial welcome to visitors <br />present, Council approved the minutes of its regular meeting held November <br />26, 1991, as circulated and amended. <br /> <br />There was no business from the floor. <br /> <br />~Council conducted a discussion with area legislators, Delegate-ElectWard L. <br />~rmstrong, Senator Virgil H. Goode, and Delegate Wm. Roscoe Reynolds, <br />regarding issues concerning municipal government in the upcoming session of <br />the Virginia General Assembly. Council commented on several matters of <br />concern, including schools, highways, reimbursement payment for the Prison <br />Farm'sstate prisoners, etc. The legislators addressed some of these issues <br />and requested more detail on others. Mayor McClain expressed appreciation to <br />the State legislators for attending the meeting. <br /> <br />Council'accepted a status report on the FY91-92 School Budget from S. Harold <br />Lamm, Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Lamm reported that the School Division <br />had made cuts in its current budgetto offset unanticipated expenditures <br />.which' had arisen° Mr. Lamm stated that~ even after making the cuts~ an <br />overexpenditure of $18,205 remains which may result in a request for a <br />supplemental appropriation later in the year. <br /> <br /> <br />
