SATURDAY. OCTOBER 29. 19943~65 <br /> <br />The Martinsville City Council and the Henry County Board of Supervisors <br />met in joint session on Saturday, October 29, 1994, at 10:00 a.m., at <br />Patrick Henry Community College. <br /> <br />The following members of City Council were present: George B. Adams, <br />Jr.,Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree, M. Gene Teague and <br />Clyde L. Willjams. Also present were City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., <br />and Assistant City Manager Dewey P. Cashwell. <br /> <br />The following members of the Henry County Board of Supervisors were <br />present: Sandra Hodges, Chairman; Jack Dalton, Vice-Chairman; Simon <br />Spencer; Paula Burnette; Francis Zehr and Sammy Pilson. Also present <br />were County Attorney L. Dale McGhee; County Administrator Robert P. <br />Lawler, Jr.; and Deputy County Administrator Veronica Venable. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams and Chairman Hodges called the respective governing bodies <br />into session. Dr. Don Lacy served as facilitator for the meeting. <br /> <br />Dr. Lacy had interviewed each of the members of Council and the Board of <br />Supervisors prior to the meeting and listed the following issues which <br />had been identified by the local officials as important topics for dis- <br />cussion: Building and Space Needs, Central Regional Identity, Economic <br />Development, Education, Emergency Services, Government Forms and Struc- <br />tures, Highways.and Streets, Joint Industrial Development Activities, <br />Jails, Law Enforcement, Legislative Liaison, Virginia Museum of Natural <br />History, Public Works/Public Service Authority, Martinsville Speedway, <br />Social Services, Water and Sewer Services, and Uptown. <br /> <br />The group discussed the need for a new identity for this region which <br /> <br /> <br />
