TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1994 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr., presiding, was <br />held Tuesday, October 25, 1994 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of Council were present: George B. <br />Adams, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree; M. Gene <br />Teague; and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor Adams' cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its October 6 and 10, <br />1994 meetings as circulated. <br /> <br />Retirement stipends were presented to Frederick O. Falconbury, <br />Recreation Division, National Guard Armory, Custodian II, 1981-1994 and <br />Oscar Jessie Martin, Police Department, Sergeant, 1965-1994. <br /> <br />Council conducted a public hearing on a request from the Martinsville <br />School Board for a Special Use Permit under Section VIII., Paragraph <br />G.1. of the City's Zoning Ordinance to allow proposed additions to the <br />facilities located at 30 Cleveland Avenue. Superintendent of Schools <br />S. Harold Lamm and R. Allan Burchette, of Dewberry & Davis, reviewed <br />plans for the modernization of the Martinsville Junior High. Messrs. <br />Lamm and Burchette responded to several questions from the members of <br />Council and citizens present regarding specific aspects of the building <br />program. There being no other comments from the public, Mayor Adams <br />declared the public hearing closed. Upon motion, duly seconded and by <br />unanimous vote, Council approved the Special Use Permit. <br /> <br />Council accepted the 1993 Outstanding Achievement for Superior <br />Pedestrian Safety Program Award presented to the City by the AAA <br /> <br /> <br />
