Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, on <br />Tuesday, Ju:q- 12, 195.5, at 7:30 P.M., all members, as follows, being present: Mayor <br /> <br />and Counc1JJnan R. S. Hodnett; and Coumilmen C. P. Craig, B. H. Hill, W. T. Turner, and <br /> <br />J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />Yinutes of the regular Council meeting held June 28, 19.55, upon being read, were appt"oved. <br /> <br />The following report of the P4nningCommission was received am ordered placed on <br />Council's next meeting's agenda: <br /> <br />Honorable ~or and Cii:(y Council <br />Oi t;y of lIartimvilJ.e <br />llartin9ville, Virginia <br /> <br />~u <br />~~ <br />'i <br /> <br />Gentlemen: <br /> <br />The' PlanningCoDlllission of the City ot lIartinsv1lle, far the past several meetings, <br />has been considering a petition .from the Honorable Ke:rman C. Whittle and Lanier <br />Farms, Inc., requesting the rezoning of Lots 1 - 8, Section "JIt, of the Lanier <br />Farms Developnent 1a.ying on the south side of Mulberry Road between Oakwood Court <br />and Lanier Road, .from A-l ResidentiaJ. to B-1 Business in order that a neighborhood <br />shopping center might be erected thereon. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission, at its meeting on April 28, 19.55, voted unanimously to <br />make the following recommendation toCit,. Council: <br /> <br />That the property in question be rezoned as requested 'With the stipulation that <br />certain restrictive covenants be presented to the Planning Commission for its <br />approval, by the owners, and subsequentl\v recorded in the CiV Clerk's office. <br /> <br />On June 2, 1955, the P1.aming Commission com idered a set ot covenants prepared <br />by counsel for the petitioners and copy of these covenants as approved by the <br />Planning Commission is attached hereto. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission hereby recommends to Coureil that the property in question <br />be rezoned as requested iZ"aVided the attached covenants are recorded in the Clerk's <br />office to control the use of the property. <br /> <br />The Pla.nn:i.ng COlIDIIission, in making the above recamrendatioD, is cognizant of the <br />fact that our present zoning ordinance does not fully limit the use of land zoned <br />tobusineas for the purpose as proposed in the petition submitted and cODSeque~ <br />the covenants, as attached, have been recomrrended by the Commission and accepted <br />by tM petitioners. <br />
