<br />316 <br /> <br />DECEMBER 17, 1954 <br /> <br />FRIDAY <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of Martinsville City Council--held in lieu of the <br /> <br /> <br />Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 14, 1954 because a quorum was not <br /> <br />present on said December:J.4th--was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, on Friday, <br /> <br />December 17, 1954, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding and with all members, as <br /> <br />follows, present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; and Councilmen C. P. Craig, <br /> <br />B. H. Hill, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Coun:::il meeting held November 23, 1954, upon being read, <br /> <br />were approved. <br /> <br />In accordan::e with Council's request of said November 23rd, City Attorney Stone <br /> <br />presented the following draft of ordinances relating to driveway entrance <br /> <br />regulations and curb cuts--which would amend the City1s street, Planning & <br /> <br />Zoning Codes--which Council placed on first reading: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsvil1e, Virginia, <br />that Section 17 (Chapter I of Title V--"streets and Sidewalks"') of the <br />Street Code of the City of Martinsville, Virginia be amended to read as <br />follows: <br /> <br />SECTION 17 - Driveway Entrances <br /> <br />Paragraph 1. <br />Definitions: <br />(a) The term "service drivewayr, as used herein shall mean any concrete or <br />other type driveway constructed and/or reconstructed in or upon any <br />street and intended for use or used by the public. <br />(b) The term "private driveway" as used herein s hall mean any concrete or <br />other type driveway constructed and/or reconstructed in or upon any <br />street and not intended for use or used generally by the public whether <br />it be in a business zone or in a residential zone. <br />Paragraph 2. <br />It shall be unlawful to construct and maintain any "'service drivewayU or <br />"private driveway" in the City without first securing a permit therefor <br />from the office of the City Manager or his des igna ted agent. <br />ParaGraph 3. <br />The maximum opening of any driveway, regardless of the use for which it <br />is intended, shall be thirty (30) feet, measured along a line parallel <br />to the curb at the property line. <br />
