<br />2:: <br /> <br />TUES DAY <br /> <br />JUNE 8, 1954 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, June 8, 1954, at 7:30 P.M., "nth the following members <br /> <br />being present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett, and Councilmen C. P. Craig, <br /> <br />w. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. Councilman D. H. Goode VTCI.S absent. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held May 2.5, 1954, upon being read, were <br /> <br />approved. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried by a recorded vote of the <br /> <br />Councilmen present, a budget for the City of Martinsville for the fiscal year <br /> <br />ending June 30, 1955, as placed on first reading May 7, 1954, was adopted. <br /> <br />M <br /> <br />Attorney Robert L. Carter, Counsel for Rev. J. G. Houck, appeared before the <br /> <br />Council and confirmed an offer of $375.00 which Rev. Houck presented to the <br /> <br />Council on May 2.5, 1954 for a small triangular track of land on the new Route 220 <br /> <br />Thoroughfare at or near Lavinder Street. Council referred this matter to City <br /> <br />Manager Mathewson, City Attorney Stone, and Traffic and Planning Engineer Irving <br /> <br />R. McGhee. <br /> <br />In connection with a petition referred by Council to the Planning Commission on <br /> <br />August 2.5, 19.53 concerning the relocation of Doyle Street, the Planning Commission <br /> <br />presented the follovdng recommendation and Council indicated its acceptance of the <br /> <br />proposed relocation of said Doyle Street in accordance ~~th a revised map accompanJ~ng <br /> <br />said recomnendation: <br /> <br />The City Council on August 25, 1954, referred to the Planning Commission a <br />petition concerD-l..ng the relocation of Doyle Street. <br />
