<br />TUE~SDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 28, 1952 <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, October 28, 1952, at 7:30 o'clock P.M., all members, <br /> <br />as follows, being present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett, and CounciJJnen <br /> <br />C. P. Craig, D. H. Goode, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held October 1.4, 1952, upon being read, <br /> <br />were approved. <br /> <br />In reporting on the progress being made regarding the proposed Route 220 <br /> <br />Thoroughfare (By-Pass), City Manager Mathewson informed Council that options <br /> <br />have been secured on approximately one-third of the number of properties <br /> <br />M" <br />5C1 <br />~~ <br />~ <br /> <br />involved and, too, that a team or "stake-out" party from the Virginia Highway <br /> <br />Department has arrived and will immediately begin staking off the required <br /> <br />right~f-way for said Thoroughfare, thus enabling affected property owners <br /> <br />to determine exactly how their respective properties will be affected. <br /> <br />"A petition from Dr. John W. Clark, this city, requesting that property on <br /> <br />the East side of ~levelaYJ.d Street from Mulberry Extension to Starling Avenue <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />be rezoned from "A-l Residential" to "B-1 Business", was referred to the <br /> <br />Planning Commission. ~ <br /> <br />A petition in the form of a letter from ~tr. P. S. Ford, this City, requesting <br /> <br />the abandonment of that portion of Matt street adjacent to his property under <br /> <br />the same terms and conditions as the portion of Matt Street adjacent to <br /> <br />,..... <br /> <br />property of Wesmart Corporation was recently abandoned, was referred to City <br /> <br />Manager Mathewson. <br />
