<br />') <br />b; <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 28, 1952 <br /> <br />Being informed that an erroneous and double assessment involving three vacant <br /> <br />lots on Wingfield Street has occurred from the 1950 general re-assessment of <br /> <br />local taxable property, CouJcil requested City Attorney Stone to take such <br /> <br />steps as are necessary to have the City's records and this error corrected. <br /> <br />In an appropriate ceremony and on behalf of the University of Virginia and <br /> <br />its Extension Division, Mayor R. S. Hodnett awarded certificates to various <br /> <br />local department heads and officials who recently completed the Municipal <br /> <br />Supervisors Training Course made possible by the University of Virginia and <br /> <br />conducted by Dr. Weldon Cooper, Associate Director of the University's <br /> <br />Bureau of Public Administration. The Council instru.cted the Clerk to convey <br /> <br />to President Colgate W. Darden, of the University, and to Dr. Cooper an <br /> <br />expression of the Council's very sincere appreciation to them for their <br /> <br />cooperation and generous assistance. <br /> <br />In presenting a proposed 1952-53 curb and gutter program for the City, City <br /> <br />Manager Mathewson outlined the various factors taken into consideration by <br /> <br />him in preparing such a progra.'Tl and arriving at his recommendations. Mr. <br /> <br />Mathewson pointed out that because of the limited funds ($20,000.00) available <br /> <br />in the current budget it would be possible to construct only the most urgently <br /> <br /> <br />needed curbs and gutters, proposing that the following streets and/or sections <br /> <br />of these streets be assigned curbs and gutters for the current year: <br /> <br />(a) Cliff Street, from Highland to Chalmers - 817 feet on each <br />side - total of 1,634 feet; <br />(b) Chalmers Street, from Forest to Cliff - 706 feet on each side - <br />total of 1,412 feet; <br />(c) Fairy Street, from East Church to end - 789 feet on each side - <br />total of 1,578 feet; <br />(d) ~Tt1e Road, from Chatham Road to Berta Road - 975 feet on <br />each side - total of 1,950 feet; and <br />(e) Mulberry Road, from end of curb constructed last year - 990 <br />feet on each side - total of 1,980 feet. <br /> <br />This program, as recommended by City Manager Mathewson, was placed on first <br /> <br />
