<br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 22. 1956 <br /> <br />>,'-' <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with }~yor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, May 22, 1956, at 7:30 P.M., all members, as follows, being <br /> <br />present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; Vice-Mayor and Councilman C. P. <br /> <br />Craig; and Councilmen B. H. Hill, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />After the invocation, offered by Mayor Hodnett, the Council approved as read <br /> <br />the minutes of Council's meeting held May 8, 1956. <br /> <br />Council deferred its regular order of business to hear Mr. Edd Warren, Dillard <br /> <br />Street, who requested that some regrading of that street be done in the immediate <br /> <br />future to provide better ingress and egress at the several driveway entrances. <br /> <br />mH <br />,Q.~ <br />rr <br />~i <br /> <br />Council referred this request to City Manager Mathewson. <br /> <br />Council deferred action once again on a proposed ordinance to amend the City's <br /> <br />Zoning Map and Code by rezoning from "B_1 Business" to "A-l Residential" an area <br /> <br />off Chatha~ Heights Road near or adjacent to Standpipe Hill Road and Banner Street. <br /> <br />This proposal, as petitioned for by Mr. Roy C. Dodson and previously approved by <br /> <br />the Planning Commission, was re-referred to the Planning Commission in view of <br /> <br />expressed opposition which was not apparent durL~g the Commission's deliberations <br /> <br />thereon. <br /> <br />Because a special Board of Viewers appointed ~T Council on May 8th has not reported <br /> <br />on its findings with respect to the proposed closing of a portion of Smith-Rucker <br /> <br />Road, Council continued this matter. <br /> <br />After receiving additional information from Mr. John Hartley, on behalf of his <br /> <br />taxicab clients who are seeking a reduction (from l% to 2%) of local license tax <br />
