~6 TU~ESDAY MAY 22. 1956 rates on local taxicab operations, Council indicated that it yould render its decision thereon at its next regular meeting. Subject to City Attorney Stone's approval, Council approved for CitJr Manager Matheyson's signature an agreement between Mr. Wilbur S. Doyle (and others) carrying out the conditions stipulated by Council on March 28, 1956 in granting Mr. Doyle and the Carolina & Northwstern Railyay Company permission to construct a spur tract or siding across Fishel Road. Upon recommendation of City Manager Matheyson, Council unanimously voted to increase, effective July 1, 1956, the allowance to the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company for its operating expenses from $100.00 per month to $150.00 per month, the appropriation for this in the tentative 1956-57 budget to reflect this action. Also upon City Manager Matheyson's recommendation, Council adopted the following ordinance amending the City's present ordinance governing the operation of the Finance Department, as follows: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND UNDER EMERGENCY CONDITIONS A PORTION OF SECTION 12-1.1 OF AN ORDINANCE CREATING AND ESTABLISHING A DEPAR'I'HENT OF FINANCE FOR THE CITY OF MARTINSVILIE', AS ADOPTED JUNE 27, 1950. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Hartinsville, Virginia that the above-cited ordinance be and is hereby amended, yith respect only to the presentation and adoption of the City's 1956-57 budget, to provide as follows: (a) the 1956-57 budget shall be presented to the Council on June 26, 1956; (b) Martinsville City Council shall conduct a public hearing on said proposed 1956-57 budget on July 10, 1956; and (c) Martinsville City Council may adopt said proposed 1956-57 budget on or after July 10, 1956. An emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in effect only for the period hereinabove specified.
