<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />!fRIL ~t 19~6 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the Ci ty of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, April 24, 1956, at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, <br />as follows: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; Vice-Mayor and Councilman <br />C. P. Craig; and Councilmen B. H. Hill, W. T. Turner, and J. R. WaTher. <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />After the invocation by Councilman W. T. Turner, Council approved as read the <br />minutes of Council's regular meeting held April 10, 1956. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on a proposal to rezone from US-I Business" to "A-l Residential" that certain <br /> <br />property in the Chatham Heights area to the rear of property formerly occupied <br /> <br />~'.:;;.'.> <br />:,;~~ <br />'1 V' <br />I f?1 <br />\\=- <br /> <br />by Radio Station WHEE and adjacent to Standpipe Hill Road and Banner Street, <br />which proposal as presented by Mr. Roy C. Dodson (petitioner) carried the <br /> <br />approval of the City's Planning Commission. Council, taking note of the fact <br /> <br />that no opposition to the proposal was present, accepted the Commission's <br /> <br />recommendation thereon and placed on first reading the following ordinance to <br /> <br />effect said proposal by amending the City's Zoning Map and Code: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this day of , <br />1956, that the Zoning Code and Zoning Ma.p of the City of Martinsville <br />be and is hereby amended to provide that the following area is hereby <br />rezoned from "B-1 Business" to "A-l Residential": <br /> <br />Beginning at the intersection of the West line of Banner Street <br />(formerly Ridge Road) and the N. E. line of Standpipe Hill Road; <br />thence following said north-east line of Standpipe Hill Road in <br />a northerly directon to an alley; thence along the south-east line <br />of said alley in a north-easterly direction 740 feet to a point in <br />the west line of Banner Street; thence along said Banner Street <br />line in a southerly direction to the point of beginning. <br /> <br />Upon reconnnendation of the Planning Commission, Council designated the <br /> <br />engineering consulting firm of James Webb Associates, of Chapel Hill, <br /> <br />North Carolina, as consultants to the Planning Commission and the City's <br /> <br />-_._-~-----,._~.----_.,--"..- <br />
