<br />2: <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />~:~ER 8, 1960 <br /> <br />,.- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly neeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br /> <br /> <br />Tuesday, November 8, 1960, at 4:30 P.M., with all members of Council present, viz., <br /> <br />Mayor aIld Councilman J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor and Councilman Fred T. Renick; and <br /> <br />CounciJ_wn Thomas J. Burch; E. E. Stone; and Harry L. Boaz. <br /> <br />1....-' <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minut.es of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held October 25, 1960, and of its special meeting held October 28, 1960. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted the report of <br /> <br />the Citizer:s Parking Corrunittee presented October 25, 1960, suggesting nominees for <br /> <br />Council's consideration in appointing additional members to the Parking Committee; <br /> <br />thus, Council unanimously appointed the follovring new members, retaining Councilman <br /> <br />Thomas J. Burch in an advisory capacity on the committee, <br />Mrs. Drury V. Doss; <br />1111'S. John W. C lar k ; <br />Mr. Thomas Leath; and <br />Ilr. Joseph W. Howell. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a letter dated November 3, 1960, from Mr. S. J. <br /> <br />'-" <br /> <br />Fuller, Chairman of the Traffic 8" Transportation COl1".mittee of the Martinsville-Henry <br /> <br />County Chamber of Commerce, informing Council that tJle Committee would not oppose <br /> <br />the Norfolk & Western Raib~~ Company's proposed discontinuation of its rail <br /> <br />passenger service in this area. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst informed Council that representatives and officials of the <br /> <br />Appalachian Power Company have recently expressed the des:ire to appear before Council <br /> <br />in the very near future in connection with Council's interest in acquiring Appalachian's <br /> <br />electric system facilities within the area annexed to the City of Martinsville as of <br /> <br />Januar'J 1, 1960. <br />
