<br />338 <br /> <br />TUE2lDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 8. 1964 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, Tuesday, December 8, 1964, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all <br /> <br />members of Council being present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor <br /> <br />Fred T. Renick, M.D.; Harry L. Boaz; Thomas J. ulrch; and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held November 24, 1964. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst informed Council that general acceptance by the <br /> <br /> <br />Department of Military Affairs of the Commonwealth of Virginia and by the <br /> <br /> <br />architectural firm involved has been given for the new National Guard Armory <br /> <br /> <br />constructed by Frith Construction Company and that the Armory is now available <br /> <br />for occupancy by the local National Guard units, although certain corrections <br /> <br />and/or refinements required by the architectural firm are yet to be made by <br /> <br />Fri th Com,truction Company, with completion of these items indicated by <br /> <br />early 1965. <br /> <br />A special committee, composed of Councilman Burch and City Manager Hirst, <br /> <br />reported that it has conferred with Mr. J. Burness Frith--of Frith Construction <br /> <br /> <br />CompanY--i..'i th reference to the Frith inquiry regarding a site sought by Mr. <br /> <br /> <br />Frith within the City's Industrial Park, as referred to in Council's minutes <br /> <br /> <br />of November 24, 1964. The Committee further reported that a site of <br /> <br />approximately eleven acres has been mutually agreed upon, with the conditions <br /> <br />that the City extend its water line to the site--at an approximate cost of <br /> <br />$1,350.00--and the purchaser to provide sewer service. Councilman Burch also <br /> <br />recommended that the property be sold to Frith Construction Company at a price <br /> <br />of $2,800.00 per acre; whereupon, Council accepted the Committee's report and <br />
