<br />172 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 13. 1963 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, Tuesd~, August 13, 1963, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of <br /> <br />Council were present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; Thomas J. Burch; and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meetings held July 9, 1963 and July 23, 1963, and of its special meeting held <br /> <br />August 6, 1963. <br /> <br />By report dated August 6, 1963, the City's Planning Commission recommended that <br /> <br />the rezoning petition recently submitted by Messrs. W. M. Carter and C. R. Minter-- <br /> <br />requesting the rezoning to "B-2 Industrial" of two lots on the south side of <br /> <br />Chatham Road opposite the Wilson Antique Shop at the corner of Bethel Lane and <br /> <br />Chatham Road--be denied, reasons for which are as follows: <br /> <br />1. That the topograph of the property is such that it better lends <br />itself to development for residential purposes with access thereto <br />from Sherwood Court which lies immediately to the rear of the <br />property; <br />2. That development of the property for the proposed use could <br />possibly create undesirable truck traffic through the residential <br />property lying to the rear and already developed; <br />3. That the petition, as submitted, is for spot zoning, lying <br />between two occupied residences now fronting Chatham Road; and <br />4. That there exists in the City at this time considerably more <br />land with the proper zoning for this type use than will be <br />utilized for some time to come. <br /> <br />Commission's report and recommendations and, thus, denied the petitioners' request. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted the Planning <br /> <br />In discussing possible usage of property acquired by the City at and near the <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />southeast corner of Moss and Church Streets, Council indicated that study should <br />
