1~

TUESDAY

AUGUST 1 3. 1963

-

be given to determine how the property can be best used and, if for municipal

facilities, the size and type of building or buildings that might be constructed

on the site; whereupon, Mayor Wilson appointed Councilmen Thomas J. Burch and

E. E. Stone as a special committee to conduct the study and to present recommenda-

tions to Council for its consideration. Meanwhile, Council directed that study

by the City's Traffic Department be given to present and probable traffic

conditions in the area in order that any widening of present streets or the

construction of new streets which may be required can be correlated with develop-

ment of the property.

,-

,-

By letter dated August 13, 1963, the Planning Commission reported that it has

considered the complaint registered by Mr. J. O. Poff, residing on Chatham Road

beyond the Mountain Road intersection, as referred by Council to the Planning

Commission on July 9, 1963, and pertaining to the location of Mr. Poff's

residence in set-back relation to houses on Grandview Road and to future building

on vacant lots in the vicinity along Chatham Road. The Commission further reported

that it sympathizes with Mr. Poff but are at a loss as to making any recommendations

for a solution under the present zoning ordinance. The Commission, however,

suggested that, at such time as actual development of the vacant lots occurs, a

careful analysis of the set-back section of the zoning ordinance in effect at the

time be made to properly locate future dwellings.

--

Mayor Wilson reported that Council is in the process of selecting local citizens

for membership on the bi-racial advisory committee, establishment of which was

authorized by Council on July 23, 1963, and that membership of the committee will

be announced in the very near future.
