<br />') ~J <br />-~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 24, 1971 <br /> <br />c- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, August 24, <br /> <br />1971, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., F. T. Renick, M.D., Mayor; Francis T. West, Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />~- <br /> <br />meeting held August 17~ 1971. <br /> <br />With reference to Council's action held in abeyance from its August 17th meeting, <br /> <br />regarding Mr. Victor A. Lester's requested rezoning of "Lot No.2" fronting <br /> <br />Church Street Extension, Messrs. James H. Ford and Ben H. Via--members of the <br /> <br />Planning Commission--appeared before Council and reviewed the facts and <br /> <br />conditions supporting the Commission's July 13th recommendation that Mr. Lester's <br /> <br />request for rezoning of said "Lot No.2" be denied. Concurring in the Connnission's <br /> <br />findings and in acceptance thereof, Council unanimously denied Mr. Lester's <br /> <br />request that said lot be rezoned from "R-9" to "R-6". <br /> <br />In acceptance of the Planning Connnission's following report, subject to public <br /> <br />hearing and final action, Council scheduled for Public Hearing at its forthcoming <br /> <br />September 21st meeting (rescheduled from September 14th) an applicatnn for a <br /> <br />Special-Use Permit filed by the Trust Department (Mr. Frank D. Fulton, Vice President <br /> <br />and Trust Officer) of The First National Bank of Martinsville & Henry County, on <br /> <br />behalf of Cornerstone Apartments, to allow for the expanding of said Cornerstone <br /> <br />Apartments at the corner of Church Street and Starling Avenue: <br /> <br />The Planning Commission conducted a Public Hearing on August 17, 1971, <br />with regard to a petition submitted by Mr. Frank Fulton of the First <br />National Bank requesting a Special Use Permit to allow for the <br />expansion of the Cornerstone Apartments at the corner of Starling <br />Avenue and Church Street. <br />
