<br />...., l) <br /> <br />'(~' ...... <br /> <br />AUGUST 24, 1971 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />Following consideration of this matter, the Commission voted to <br />recommend to Council that this Speical Use Permit be granted <br />subject to the attached set of conditions. <br /> <br />The Commission in its consideration of this matter noted that <br />no one was present in opposition to the issuance of this permit <br />and that this development is in general conformity with the <br />plan for development of the City. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission respectfully submits the above <br />recommendation for Councils further consideration. <br /> <br />Council unanimously recognized and commended Messrs. Clifton D. Martin <br /> <br />and Charlie W. Smith, recently retired from the City's Polic Department, <br /> <br />for their long and faithful service to the City and its citizens while <br /> <br />members of said department. <br /> <br />As a parallel and confirming action to date hereinbefore established for <br /> <br />a public hearing on the Cornerstone Apartments Special-Use Permit application, <br /> <br />Council rescheduled to September 2lst its meeting originally scheduled for <br /> <br />September 14th, inasmuch as members of Council and other City officials will <br /> <br />be attending the annual meeting of the Virginia Municipal League in Virginia <br /> <br />Beach, Virginia, September 12th-14th. <br /> <br />Pursuant to request of American Furniture Company, Inc., Council authorized <br /> <br />(on a shared-cost basis) the constructing of a sidewalk along the west side <br /> <br />of Starling Avenue, between Hairston Street and the highway bridge over the <br /> <br />Norfolk & Western Railway, concurrent with petitioner's improvements to its <br /> <br />property fronting said west side of Starling Avenue. The record noted that <br /> <br />along highway primary routes, such as Starling Avenue, abutting property <br /> <br />owners are not required to share in the cost of such construction; however, <br /> <br />with petitioner voluntarily agreeing to share in such cost, although petition <br /> <br />for same was not received in time initially to consider and include in the <br />
