<br />7 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 28, 1970 <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, April <br /> <br />28, 1970, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all <br /> <br />members being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor Francis <br /> <br />h West; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held April 14, 1970. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's report and recommendation, <br /> <br />pertaining to rezoning petition filed February 24, 1970, by American Standard <br /> <br />Homes Corporation, Council directed that a duly-advertised public hearing be <br /> <br />conducted by Council at its forthcoming May 26th meeting on a proposal to <br /> <br />rezone to "M-3" all of the J. L. Beckner property lying within the City's <br /> <br />corporate limits near and/or adjacent to the Roy Stone Trucking complex. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council awarded the <br /> <br />contract--for the auditing of the City's financial records and accounts for <br /> <br />the fiscal year ending June 30, 1970--to the firm of Ford, Hogg, Davidson & <br /> <br />Cobbe, certified public accountants. <br /> <br />Mr. Kevin Barrows and Mr. David Walker, local students, appeared before Council <br /> <br />and urged Council to enact stringent regulations designed to control and/or <br /> <br />prevent air pollution, the present and continuing extent of which are deemed <br /> <br />hazardous and dangerous to the health of mankind, animal life, and plant life. <br /> <br />Council commended these young men on their interest and efforts in this matter, <br /> <br />expressing the hope that through their efforts and the effects of other citizens <br /> <br />and groups the general populace, including the citizens and officials of Henry <br />
