<br />MONDAY, DECEMBER 9, 1985 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Monday, December 9, 1985, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, as fol- <br /> <br />lows: William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; Eliza H. Severt, Vice-Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; <br /> <br />L. D. Oakes; and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council <br /> <br />unanimously approved the minutes of its regular meeting held November 25, 1985. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br /> <br />Virginia Mirror Company's petition, as approved by the City's Planning Commission, <br /> <br />seeking the vacating and abandonment of Maryland Street between Lavinder Street and <br /> <br />the Norfolk & Western Railway Company's right-of-way and, also, seeking the rezoning <br /> <br />from "C-3 Commercial" to "M-2 Industrial" of that tract of land identified as Parcel <br /> <br />"C" situated between the Norfolk & Western Railway Company's right-of-way and Winston, <br /> <br />Lavinder and Maryland Streets. Petitioner was represented by Mr. John L. Gregory, III, <br /> <br />Attorney at Law. There being no objections to this petition registered by any citizen, <br /> <br />Mayor Cole declared this public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and <br /> <br />unanimously carried, Council accepted the Planning Commission's recommendations re- <br /> <br />garding the petition and, thereby, granted same through its unanimous adoption of the <br /> <br />following ordinances: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled, that Maryland Street between Lavinder <br />Street and the Norfolk & Western Railway Company's right-of-way, be <br />and hereby is vacated and abandoned; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that, an emergency existing, <br />this ordinance shall be in force on and after December 10, 1985. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled, that the Zoning Map of the City of <br /> <br />.... .. <br /> <br />181 <br />
