<br />r, <br />U <br /> <br />September 12, 2006 <br /> <br />A Community Meeting with City Council for the Southside area was held <br /> <br />on September 12, 2006, at Fuller Memorial Baptist Church, 1204 South Askin <br /> <br />Street, Martinsville, Virginia, beginning at 7:00 P. M., with Mayor Kimble <br /> <br />Reynolds, Jr. presiding. Council Members present included: Mayor Kimble <br /> <br />Reynolds, Jr., Vice Mayor James W. Clark and Council Members Mark T. <br /> <br />Anderson, J. Ronald Ferrill and Kathy C. Lawson. <br /> <br />Mayor Reynolds opened the meeting, welcoming all in attendance and <br /> <br />asking anyone who wished to make comments to approach the podium and <br /> <br />state their name and address. Comments were received from the following <br /> <br />individuals: <br /> <br />Edward Donahue, 1211 Askin Street - problem with city's decision to <br /> <br />raise taxes to keep electric rates low for rental tenants, cable technology has <br /> <br />become obsolete and some localities are providing cable over the power lines, <br /> <br />landlords need to insulate their buildings, more enforcement with landlords. <br /> <br />Katherine Wingfield, 110 Emmette Street - continuous problem with <br /> <br />tenants at 112 Emmett Street regarding subleasing, property maintenance <br /> <br />issues, having to call police on regular basis, traffic in and out of the house <br /> <br />constantly; why property maintenance process takes so long; speeding on the <br /> <br />street; kids hanging out at night; trash on streets; problems at Sparky's <br /> <br />Janet Fentress, 1314 Askin Street - trash on streets, apartments at <br /> <br />lower end of the street are not kept up. <br />
