October 14, 2003 <br /> <br />A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, was held on October 14, 2003, in Council Chamber, Municipal Building, <br /> <br />beginning at 7:30 P. M., with Mayor Gene Teague presiding. Council Members present <br /> <br />included: M. Gene Teague, Mayor; Terry L. Roop, Vice Mayor; and Council Members <br /> <br />Joseph R. Cobbe, Bruce H. T. Dallas, and J. Ronald Ferrill. <br /> <br />Following the invocation by Vice Mayor Roop and Pledge to the American Flag, <br /> <br />Mayor Teague welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br />Council considered adoption, on second reading, of Ordinance 2003-13 on a <br /> <br />request by the Planning Commission to amend Zoning Ordinance Section II Definitions <br />for accessory buildings. Council Member Ferrill moved to adopt, on second reading, of <br /> <br />the following Ordinance 2003-13; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br /> <br />following roll call vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Dallas, <br /> <br />Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />MARTINSVILLE, VIRGINIA, in regular session assembled <br />September 23, 2003, that the City of Martinsville Zoning Ordinance, <br />Section II, Definitions, be amended, revised, and reordained to read <br />as follows: <br />A subordinate building/structure detached from, but located on the <br />same lot as the principal building, the use of which is incidental and <br />accessory to that of the principal building. Carports, garages, utility <br />sheds, and similar facilities customarily associated with residential <br />living are permitted, but only after a building permit for the <br />accessory building has been issued. Such facilities shall not be <br />larger than the dwelling. No shipping containers, trailers, <br />manufactured or mobile homes, vehicle bodies or similar containers <br />shall be used for any of these purposes. <br />All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions <br />of this ordinance be and the same are hereby repealed. <br /> <br />Council considered designating a voting delegate and alternate for the Virginia <br /> <br />Municipal League Annual Conference in Roanoke on October 19-21,2003.
