September 24, 2002 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on September 24, 2002, at the Virginia Museum of Natural History, <br />beginning at 7:30 P. M., with Mayor Gene 'Feague presiding. Council Members present <br />included: M. Gene Teague, Mayor; Terry L. Roop, Vice Mayor; and Council Members <br />Joseph R~ Cobbe, Bruce H. T. Dallas, and J. Ronald Ferrill. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, Mayor ']'eague welcomed <br />everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Roop moved to approve the minutes of the September 5, 2002, <br />meeting as amended, and the September '10, 2002, meeting as presented; the motion <br />was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - <br />0; Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council conducted the town meeting. Brenda Prillaman, Customer Service <br />Coordinator, presented the customer concern report of the museum neighborhood for <br />September 200'1 through September 2002. At the request of Council Member Ferrill, <br />Leon 'Fowarnicki, Director of Public Works, and Wayne Knox, Planning, Zoning, & <br />Housing Manager, gave an update on the Southside and Academy Place Community <br />Development Block Grant programs. Liz Wolchko, of 2'13 Rives Road, expressed <br />concern regarding the volume and speed of truck traffic on Rives Road. Council <br />suggested that Staff work with First Piedmont Corporation and local industries to <br />establish the best travel for trucks. <br /> <br /> Council considered approval, on second reading, of an Ordinance on a request <br />by the City of Martinsville to rezone Parcel 33-03-0-08 located at '120 Maple Street from <br />M-2 Industrial to R-6 Residential.
