August8,2000 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville in 1995 participated in a <br />Comprehensive Housing Study of blighted and deteriorated <br />neighborhoods within the City, as funded by the Virginia <br />Department of Housing and Community Development; and <br />WHEREAS, in 1997, the City designed and implemented a Critical <br />Care and Derelict Structure Stabilization/Demolition Program <br />committing local dollars for the removal of slum and blight in <br />targeted neighborhoods as identified in the Housing Study; and <br />WHEREAS, the City has continued to fund its Critical Care and <br />Derelict Structure Stabilization/Demolition Program allocating <br />$49,500 in local dollars toward the program for Fiscal Year 2000 - <br />2001; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville is eligible for and hereby <br />submits a Derelict Structures Fund application requesting a total of <br />$49,500 to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community <br />Development for consideration during the 2000 Derelict Structures <br />Fund Program round; and <br />WHEREAS, the City shall provide a 100% local dollar match of <br />$49,500 to the application funding request; and <br />WHEREAS, such grant award will be utilized for the demolition, <br />stabilization, and rehabilitation of targeted properties as identified in <br />the City's Derelict Structures Fund Program application; now, <br />therefore; <br />BE IT RESOLVED, Martinsville City Council, in regular session <br />assembled August 8, 2000, authorizes the City Manager to hereby <br />execute and file all appropriate documents for Martinsville's 2000 <br />Derelict Structures Fund Program application with the Virginia <br />Department of Housing and Community Development. <br /> <br />Council Member Dallas stated, "Thanks to the Police Chief, Fire Chief, 'and <br /> <br />elected officials for making the City's Night Out such a success." <br /> <br /> Council set, by general consensus with no vote taken, the following meetings: <br />Electrical Deregulation Work Session, Thursday, August 31, 2000, 10:00 A. M. - 1:00 P. <br /> <br />M.; and Water Resources Tour, Thursday, September 7, 2000, 10:00 A. M. - 1:00 P. M. <br /> <br /> Council considered the need to meet in Closed Session. In accordance with <br /> <br />Section 2.1-344 (A) of the Code of Viminia (1950, and as amended) and upon motion <br /> <br />by Council Member Dallas, duly seconded, and by unanimous recorded vote, Council <br /> <br />convened in Closed Session, for the purpose of discussing the following matters: <br /> <br /> <br />
