July 25, 2000 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on July 25, 2000, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, <br />beginning at 7:33 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> Following the invocation by Council Member Ferrill, Mayor Crabtree welcomed <br /> everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Council Member Dallas moved to approve, as corrected, the Minutes of the July <br /> 11, 2000, meeting; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with <br /> all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; <br /> Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Frances Milstead, of the Altrusa <br /> Club of Madinsville and Henry County, stated, "Our club would like to provide thermal <br /> imaging cameras to the City and County [of Henry], one each. Each unit costs <br /> approximately $18,000 - 20,000.00. We plan to start the campaign in September, <br /> contacting local businesses and individuals to raise funds. We're asking for your <br /> blessing." Mayor Crabtree stated, "We commend the Altrusa Club for the initiative." <br /> Council directed Staff to prepare a resolution for presentation at the next meeting. <br /> Kim Adkins, Executive Vice President of the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber <br /> of Commerce, stated, "1 would like to ask Council to support an office of tourism. I met <br /> with the Board of Supervisors [County of Henry]; they approved it contingent upon <br /> Council's action. The one-year commitment would be $20,500.00." Earl B. Reynolds, <br /> Jr., City Manager, stated, "lt's in this years budget." Vice Mayor Teague moved to <br /> <br /> <br />
