,July 1, 2000 <br /> <br /> The organizational meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, was <br />held on July 1, 2000, in the Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, beginning at <br />9:00 A. M., with Ashby Pritchett, Clerk of Circuit Court, presiding. Those present <br />included Council Members Mark A. Crabtree, Bruce H. T. Dallas, Terry L. Roop, and M. <br />Gene Teague, and Council Member-Elect J. Ronald Ferrill. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation by Reverend Ron Mateer, Senior Minister of First United <br />Methodist Church, Mr. Pritchett welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pritchett issued the Oath of Office to Council Members Ferrill, Dallas, and <br />Teague. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pritchett opened the floor for nominations for Mayor. Council Member Dallas <br />nominated Council Member Crabtree. Council Member Teague moved to close <br />nominations; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all <br />members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays <br />(0) - None. Council Member Dallas moved to elect Council Member Crabtree by <br />acclamation; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all <br />members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays <br />(0) - None. Mr. Pritchett administered the Oath of Office to Mayor Crabtree. <br /> <br /> Mayor Crabtree assumed the Chair at 9:09 A. M. He opened the floor for <br /> nominations for Vice Mayor. Council Member Ferrill nominated Council Member <br /> Teague.
