TUESDAY, September 26, 2000 <br /> <br />233 <br /> <br />cross major highways to get their mail from mailboxes, Council Members were told to forward written <br /> <br />comments to the Postmaster or send such comments through Congress if unsuccessful at the local level. <br /> <br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution accepting conveyance to the City of .598 acres, known as the <br />Tultex property at 22 East Church Street, from the Martinsville School Board. City Manager Reynolds <br />summarized the Resolution by saying that on September 14, 2000, the Martinsville School Board declared <br />the parcel as surplus property and adopted a Resolution conveying its interest in it to the City. Council <br />moved upon motion duly seconded, with all members voting: Vote 4-0; Yeas (4)- Crabtree, Teague, Dallas, <br />and Roop; Nays (0)- None; Absent (1) - Fen'ill, adoption of the following Resolution for acceptance of the <br />property. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville School Board (the "School Board") is a joint owner with the City of <br />Martinsville (the "City") of that certain parcel of real property located in the City of Martinsville containing <br />approximately 0.598 acres and commonly known as 22 East Church Street, Martinsville, Virginia (the <br />"Property"); and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the School Board desires to convey the Property to the City and the City desires to accept such <br />conveyance; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, in regular session, assembled September 26, <br />2000, that the Council does hereby accept the conveyance of the Property by the School Board to the City, as <br />is authorized under Virginia Code § 15.2-1800 and in accordance with Virginia Code § 15.2-1803; <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the City Council is authorized and directed to accept the <br />deed of the Property from the School Board conveying the interest of the School Board in the Property to the <br />City. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution shall be effective immediately. <br /> <br />Council considered designating a voting delegate and altemate for the Virginia Municipal League Annual <br />Conference at Arlington on October 22-24, 2000. Council moved upon motion duly seconded, with all <br />members voting: Vote 4-0; Yeas (4)- Crabtree, Teague, Dallas, and Roop; Nays (0)- None; Absent (1) - <br />Fen'ill, to designate Mayor Crabtree as the voting delegate and to designate Council Member Ferrill as the <br />alternate. <br /> <br /> <br />
