TUESDAY, May-23, 2000 <br /> <br />Council next considered a report on the Citizen Survey 2000. Brenda Prillaman, Customer Service Coordinator, <br /> <br />addressed Council and summarized the report. Ms. P~llaman stated the City received 1,200 responses after the <br />survey was mailed to 8,000 City utility customers. The survey's purpose was to measure the quality of life in <br />Martinsville and to give Citizens the oppommity to voice opinions. There was a 15% return response by Citizens. <br />Of those responses, 84% say Martinsville is a good place to raise a family and educate children. Copies of the <br />survey restfits are located at the local Chamber of Commerce, a few copies are available at the City's customer <br />service desk, and the results will be posted on the City's website at a later time. Council Members praised Ms. <br />Prillaman for her dedicated work on the project. Council Member Roop stated he would like to see greater <br />response by residents next time. Council Member Haskell said it is exceptional to receive so many positive <br />responses. Vice-Mayor Teague said that Council will use the information contained in the survey as a tool for <br />strategic planning. <br /> <br />Dr. Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor, arrived and took the Chair from Vice-Mayor Teague. <br /> <br />Council next considered scheduling a Public Heating to receive applications from those citizens desiring to serve on <br />the Martinswille School Board. The Public Hearing is necessary to consider interested candidates to replace W'~liam <br />A. Shackleford, Sr. and James H. Johnson, Jr. Both School Board Members' terms expire June 30, 2000, and both <br />have served their limit of terms. Council moved upon motion duly seconded, with all members voting: Vote 5- <br />0; Yeas (5)- Crabtree, Teague, Dallas, Haskell, and Roop; Nays (0)- None, to set the Public Hearing for June <br />13, 2000. Interested Citizens are encouraged to apply. <br /> <br />Council next considered conducting a Public Hearing on the City' s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2000-2001. <br />Council moved upon motion duly seconded, with all members voting: Vote 5-0; Yeas (5)- Crabtree, Teague, <br />Dallas, Haskell, and Roop; Nays (0)- None, to set the Public Hearing for June 13, 2000. <br /> <br /> <br />
