~ 12-33 MARTINSVILLE CODE .~. Sec. 12-33. Designation of through streets. The traffic engineer is hereby authorized to designate streets or parts of streets as through streets. (Code 1971, ~ 10-51) Sec. 12-34. Designation and marking of one-way streets. (a) The traffic engineer may designate any street or highway or any roadway for one-way traffic and shall erect appropriate signs, and traffic thereon shall move only in the direction designated. (b) The traffic engineer is hereby authorized to determine and designate streets, parts of streets or specific lanes thereon upon which vehicular traffic shall proceed in one direction during one period and the opposite direction during another period of the day and shall place and maintain appropriate markings, signs, barriers or other devices to give notice thereof. The traffic engineer may erect signs temporarily designating lanes to be used by traffic moving in a particular directiop., regardless ofthe center line of the roadway. (c) It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any vehicle in violation of markings, signs, barriers or other devices placed in accordance with this section. (Code 1971, ~~ 10-17, 10-18) Sec. 12-35. Designation and marking of play streets. (a) The traffic engineer, subject to the approval of the director of public works, is hereby authorized to declare and to establish, whenever he shall find that the public safety and convenience are best served thereby, any street or part thereof as a play street and to place appropriate signs and barricades enclosing the roadway indicating and helping to protect the same. /~, (b) Whenever authorized signs and barricades are erected enclosing any street or part thereof as a play street, no person shall drive a vehicle upon any such street or portion thereof. (Code 1971, ~~ 10-53, 10-54) Sec. 12-36. Designation of private driveways as "entrances" or "exits." The traffic engineer shall also have the authority to designate private driveways as either "entrances" or "exits," and when the property owner or lessee is notified in writing of such designation, such owner or lessee ~ shall install appropriate sign~ ill ac~()rdance ~it~spec~fica_- tions drawn by the traffic engineer, and the drivers of all vehicles using such driveways shall obey such signs.
