Marking of traffic lanes. <br /> <br />(a) The traffic engineer.is authorized to .mark lanes upon the roadway of any street where <br />he shall find that a regular alignment. of traffic is necessary in the interests of'safety and <br />efficiency, or a,t such places ashe may'find to be advisable, consistent with the provisions of <br />thisc~apter and other ordinances of the city relative t~ tr~cand with state law. <br /> <br />(b) Where traffic lanes have been marked pursuant.to.this section..~t,shan ~UJ1lawt'ul <br />for the operator of any yehicle to fail or refuse to keep such vehicle VlTithin the boundaries of <br />any such lane, except when lawfully passing another vehicle or preparatory to making a <br />lawful turning movement. <br />(Code 1971, ~ 10-19) <br />State law reference-Driving on highways laned for traffic, Code of Virginia, ~ 46.2-804. <br /> <br />Sec. 12-28. Authority. to prohibit use of roadway by certain vehicles and to impose <br />vehicle weight limitations. <br /> <br />The traffic engineer is hereby authorized to prohibit the use of the roadway by farm <br />tractors, trailers, semitrailers and by trucks or other commercial vehicles and to impose <br />limitations as to the weight thereof on designated streets where, in his opinion, the public <br />safety is concerned, but such prohibitions and limitations shall not become effective until <br />notice thereof is ~ven by means of appropriate signs placed on such streets. <br />(Code 1971, ~ 10-62) <br /> <br />~\ <br /> <br />Sec. 12-29. Riding bicycles on sidewalks and crosswalks in commercial districts pro- <br />hibited; authority to prohibit such on other property. <br /> <br />(a) It shall be unlawful to ride a bicycle on the sidewalks or crosswalks of any district <br />zoned commercial in the city. <br /> <br />(b) The traffic engineer is authorized to designate any other sidewalks or crosswalks in <br />the city where bicycle riding is prohibited and to erect signs so designating such areas. It shall <br />be unlawful to ride a bicycle on such sidewalks or crosswalks. <br /> <br />(c) It shall be unlawful to ride a bicycle on the sidewalks or crosswalks of any church, <br />school; recreational facility, or any business property open to the public where such activity is <br />prohibited by conspicuously posted signs. <br /> <br />(d) Signs indicating the prohibition of bicycle riding shall be conspicuously posted in any <br />general area where bicycle riding is prohibited. <br /> <br />(e) In locations where the riding of bicycles on sidewalks or crosswalks is not prohibited, <br />a person shall not ride a bicycle upon and along a sidewalk, or across a roadway upon and <br />along a crosswalk, where such use of bicycles is prohibited by official traffic-control devices. <br /> <br />/---.."", <br /> <br />Supp. No. 20 <br /> <br />720 <br />
