IN GENERAL <br /> <br />Sec. 5-1. Definitions. <br /> <br /> The definitions set forth in Section 3.1-796.66 of the Code of Virginia shall apply to the <br />interpretation and enforcement of this chapter, unless clearly indicated to'the contrary. <br />(0 rd. Animal control officer generally. <br /> <br /> The chief of police shall appoint an officer as animal control officer, and may also appoint <br />one or more deputy animal control officers, who shall have the power to enforce all laws, <br />ordinances, rules and regulations for the protection or control of domestic animals. The animal <br />control officer and deputy animal control officers shall have a knowledge of the animal control <br />and protection laws which they are required to enforce as well as knowledge of basic animal <br />care. When in uniform or upon diEplaying a badge or other credentials of office, the animal <br />control officer and any deputy animal control officer shah have the power to issue a summons <br />to any person found in the act of violating any law, ordinance, rule or regulation for the <br />protection or control of domestic animals in the city. The appointment of an animal control <br />officer or any deputy animal control officers shall in no way limit or restrict the power or <br />authority of any police officer or other law enforcement officer to enforce such laws, ordinances, <br />rules and regulations. <br />(Ord.
