March 14, 2000 <br /> <br /> Mayor Crabtree stated, "Last Thursday, Public Information Officer Renee Wyatt, <br />City Manager Earl B, Reynolds, Jr., and I had an excellent regional networking meeting <br />with the City of Greensboro. Agenda topics included transportation (I-73, 68/220 <br />improvement to airport, Federal Express airport hub, and Piedmont Triad Airport), <br />transition of local economy, tourism (Martinsville Speedway impact, hotel, motel, and <br /> <br />restaurant trade, professional baseball, and Virginia Museum of Natural History), and <br />employment. Also, on March 23, Dan Lynch, of the Greensboro Chamber of <br />Commerce,' will speak to the Martinsvi!le Kiwanis Club regarding the airport project." <br />Council Member Haskell. asked, "Are there any projects .that we could collaborate?" <br /> <br />Mayor Crabtree replied, "Yes, the Federal Express project and businesses requiring <br /> <br />high amounts of water." <br /> <br /> Thomas Harned, Assistant to the City Manager for Development, stated, <br /> <br />update you on four of the City's economic development marketing efforts: <br /> <br /> Interstate 73 - I received an alert from the Roanoke Regional <br /> Chamber of Commerce stating that both bills from the General <br /> Assembly did not mention 1-73. !, along with Kim Adkins, <br /> Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice <br /> President, did mobilize to bring attention to 1-73. Some felt that it <br /> wasn't far enough along to include. It was added, however, and <br /> both bills were approved by the General Assembly. <br /> Water Project - This postcard campaign is scheduled to place an <br /> advertisement on the desks of 400 presidents and chief executive <br /> officers of businesses every two weeks. The first one went out on <br /> February 16. It will conclude on April 5 with a bottle of water. <br /> Piedmont Triad City Facts - We had a full page, color ad in this <br /> book. It is distributed to businesses, colleges, recruiters, and <br /> motels/hotels. <br /> Southern Vir.qinia Economic Development Council - BB&T <br /> announced yesterday that it will make available the entire third floor <br /> of their uptown building to business. It is approximately 9,000 <br /> square feet and has state-of-the-art technology." <br /> <br /> <br />
