March 9, 2000 <br /> <br />round program at Clearview Elementary School, expanded <br />Community for Caring program to all K-5 schools, started Best <br />Friends program at Martinsville Middle School, implemented <br />Academy of Reading at Martinsville Middle School, implemented <br />new developmental algebra program at Martinsville High School, <br />developed Camp Excellence at Albert Harris Intermediate School, <br />implemented accelerated schools at Albert Harris Intermediate <br />School, implemented after-school programs and clubs at Druid Hills <br />and Patrick Henry Elementary Schools, expanded vocational <br />offerings at Martinsville High School to include TV production and <br />auto technology, developed articulation agreements with Patrick <br />Henry Community College involving Tech Prep Career Pathways, <br />developed regional alternative education programs, developed <br />cooperative special education programs, developed cooperative <br />vocational courses, developed strings programs for fourth graders <br />at Albert Harris Intermediate School, developed middle school <br />. athletic' agreement with County Schools, developed Project Health <br />':Ne% for school division, planned and started to implement math <br />'activity notebook project and teacher training institutes; and <br />developed two pre-school classes for four-year olds. <br /> Pro.qrams for Staff and Families: implemented tuition scholarship <br /> program for all staff, revised teacher evaluation instrument, <br /> implemented matching grants program, implemented employee <br /> suggestion program, revised policy notebook, developed Weather <br /> Line for communications purposes, developed DISPATCH <br /> Newsletter for staff, developed policy publication for parents, and <br /> developed superintendent's Teacher Advisory Council. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Teague asked, "Do you have an indication of the year-round <br /> <br />program's impact on scores?" Dr. Beth Baptist, Director of Student Services, replied, <br /> <br />"The students have not been tested, yet.. However, they will have approximately nine <br /> <br />less instructional days. The test date is the same for all and couldn't be changed." Dr. <br /> <br />Trollinger stated, "Approximately eighty-five percent of the year-round students choose <br /> <br />remediation or enhancement during their three weeks off." Council Member Dallas <br /> <br />replied, "The fifteen percent of students that are not participating are the ones that need <br /> <br />it.
