January 25,2000 WHEREAS, Martinsville City Council, in regular session assembled Januarry 23, 1996, request-ed the Commonwealth Transportation Board to establish a project for the planning and acquisition of the existing Danville and Western railway corridor for an interpretlye pedestrian trail and visitor's center, that being Phase I of this project; and WHEREAS, Martinsville City Council, in regular session assembled January27, 1998, request-ed the Commonwealth Transportation Board to assist funding the construction of the interpretire trail and visitor's center, that being Phase II of this project; and WHEREAS, Martinsville City Council, in regular session assembled January 26, 1999, request-ed the Commonwealth Transportation Board to assist further funding the construction of the interpretire trail and visitor's center, that being Phase III of this project; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled January 25, 2000, that it does hereby request the Commonwealth Transportation Board to assist with additional funding of a project for the construction of a Trail Connection (Phase IV) to link the Rail Trail with the intersection of Church Street, Oakdale Street, and Church Street Extension; thereby uniting the City's premiere Cultural & Recreational Area encompassed by J. Frank Wilson Park, the Martinsville YMCA, the National & State Historic Districts, & the Site of the new Virginia Museum of Natural History facility; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said City Council hereby agrees to pay twenty percent of the total cost for planning and design, right-of-way, and construction of this project, and that if the City of Martinsville subsequently elects to cancel this project, the City of Martinsville hereby agrees to reimburse the Virginia Department of Transportation for the total amount of the costs expended by the Department through the date the Department is notified of such cancellation. Council considered approving the Consent Agenda. Council Member Roop moved to approve the following Consent Agenda items; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: Accepted and appropriated a $250 donation by Mr. J. C. Smith into Revenue 01100908-480410 for Expenditure 01321102-506010 - Fire Prevention in the Fire Department's budget in the FY1999-2000 General Fund.
