January 25,2000 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Martinsville City Council, in regular session assembled <br /> Januarry 23, 1996, request-ed the Commonwealth Transportation <br /> Board to establish a project for the planning and acquisition of the <br /> existing Danville and Western railway corridor for an interpretlye <br /> pedestrian trail and visitor's center, that being Phase I of this <br /> project; and <br />WHEREAS, Martinsville City Council, in regular session assembled <br />January27, 1998, request-ed the Commonwealth Transportation <br />Board to assist funding the construction of the interpretire trail and <br />visitor's center, that being Phase II of this project; and <br />WHEREAS, Martinsville City Council, in regular session assembled <br />January 26, 1999, request-ed the Commonwealth Transportation <br />Board to assist further funding the construction of the interpretire <br />trail and visitor's center, that being Phase III of this project; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled January 25, 2000, that it <br />does hereby request the Commonwealth Transportation Board to <br />assist with additional funding of a project for the construction of a <br />Trail Connection (Phase IV) to link the Rail Trail with the <br />intersection of Church Street, Oakdale Street, and Church Street <br />Extension; thereby uniting the City's premiere Cultural & <br />Recreational Area encompassed by J. Frank Wilson Park, the <br />Martinsville YMCA, the National & State Historic Districts, & the Site <br />of the new Virginia Museum of Natural History facility; <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said City Council hereby agrees <br />to pay twenty percent of the total cost for planning and design, <br />right-of-way, and construction of this project, and that if the City of <br />Martinsville subsequently elects to cancel this project, the City of <br />Martinsville hereby agrees to reimburse the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation for the total amount of the costs expended by the <br />Department through the date the Department is notified of such <br />cancellation. <br /> <br />Council considered approving the Consent Agenda. Council Member Roop <br /> <br />moved to approve the following Consent Agenda items; the motion was duly seconded <br /> <br />and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - <br /> <br />Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />Accepted and appropriated a $250 donation by Mr. J. C. <br />Smith into Revenue 01100908-480410 for Expenditure <br />01321102-506010 - Fire Prevention in the Fire Department's <br />budget in the FY1999-2000 General Fund. <br /> <br /> <br />
