December 14, 1999 <br /> <br />excessive travel, lodging and meals caused by the distance of <br />travel to receive training; and <br />WHEREAS, the Criminal Justice Agencies composing and <br />receiving their training at the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice <br />Training Academy would incur increased and unnecessary cost of <br />travel, lodging and meals caused by the distance the agencies <br />would have to travel to receive training already available; and <br />WHEREAS, the Counties of Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania and the <br />Cities of Danville and Martinsville and the Towns of Chatham and <br />Gretna would incur a total estimated cost increase in excess of one <br />million dollars; and <br />WHEREAS, 611 criminal justice personnel receive the mandated <br />and specialized training at the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice <br />Training Academy in the most cost-effective manner; and <br />WHEREAS, the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee <br />(JLARC) has completed a study mandated by Senate Joint <br />Resolution 411 (1999); and <br />WHEREAS, two of the altematives of the study is to eliminate the <br />Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy; combining <br />this Academy with the Cardinal Regional Training Academy; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled December 14, 1999, that it <br />does hereby respectfully state its strong opposition to this proposal <br />and requests that the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training <br />Academy remain as presently structured. <br /> <br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution appointing City representatives to a <br /> <br />Census Complete Count Committee to work jointly with Henry County representatives in <br /> <br />conducting CENSUS 2000. Vice Mayor Teague moved to adopted the following <br /> <br />Resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all <br /> <br />members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; Nays <br /> <br />(0) - None: <br /> <br />. '-. ....WHEREAS, the Martinsville City Council realizes the importance of <br /> participating in CENSUS 2000; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Council knows that an accurate count of all <br /> Martinsville and Henry County residents is imperative to building a <br /> positive future for Martinsville and Henry County, the <br /> Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> <br />
