Council Member Dallas stated, "lt's actually our fault because it's zoned wrong." <br />Council Member Roop asked, "Are other companies having trouble in this area?' Mr. <br />Knox replied, "Yes." Vice Mayor Teague moved to table this issue until the first meeting <br />in January 2000; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with <br />all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; <br />Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered adoption of a Resolution expressing opposition to the Joint <br /> Legislative Audit and Review Committee's study mandated by Senate Joint Resolution <br /> 411 (1999) proposing the closing of the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training <br /> Academy. Council Member Roop, also Executive Director, stated, "Five alternatives <br /> exist--two would close the Piedmont Academy or at least take away State funding, two <br /> others provided for affiliations, and the other one provided funding per officer per <br /> training. The State provides $126,212; closure would not provide savings to the State-- <br /> the money would go from our community to some other." Council Member Haskell <br /> moved to adopt the following resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried by <br /> the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 4 - 0; Yeas (4) - Crabtree, Dallas, <br /> Haskell, Teague; Nays (0) - None; Abstain (1) - Roop: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training <br /> Academy was created to provide mandated and specialized <br /> criminal justice training for the Counties of Henry, Patrick and <br /> Pittsylvania and the Cities of Danville and Martinsville and the <br /> Towns of Chatham and Gretna; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training <br /> Academy was created to decrease the expense to local agencies <br /> that was associated with the increased and unnecessary cost of <br /> <br /> <br />
