September 28, 1999 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on September 28, 1999, in the gymatorium of Clearview School, <br />beginning at 7:00 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, 'Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas and Terry L. Roop. This meeting served as Councirs <br />quarterly Neighborhood Town Meeting, and a Reception for members of the community <br />was held at 6:00 P. M., prior to the regular meeting. <br /> <br /> Following delivery of the invocation by Mayor Crabtree, he welcomed everyone <br />to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Mayor Crabtree recognized Chief of Police retiree David J. Edwards for his <br />service from May 1973 - October 1999 with a key to the City and Assistant Chief of <br />Police retiree Charles E. Long for his service from November 1973 - October 1999 with <br />a proclamation. City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., then presented Chief Edwards with <br />a clock. Chief Edwards responded, 'Tve had a fine group of people to work with. <br /> <br />Thanks to them all." <br /> <br /> Council recognized City employees <br />Excellence Award and announced the winner. <br />Coordinator, read the names of the Award <br /> <br />nominated for the quarterly Service <br /> <br /> Brenda Prillaman, Customer Service <br /> Committee members (Andrea Ward, <br /> <br />Clarence Monday, Tim Porter, Wayne Knox, Sharon EchoIs, Chris Morris, Jerry Ceasar, <br />and Mike Wilson). Mrs. Prillaman stated, "Those nominated have gone the extra mile." <br />City Manager Reynolds and Mrs. Prillaman recognized nominees Cindera Martin and <br />Mike Rogers, both from the Police Department, with mounted certificates.
