Vice Mayor Teague moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion was <br /> <br />duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all present members voting: Vote <br /> <br />5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None; Absent (0) <br /> <br />- None; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has designated <br />selected areas for economic growth and revitalization under the <br />Enterprise Zone Program; and <br />WHEREAS, in 1995, the Enterprise Zone was designated as a joint <br />program between Martinsville and Henry County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Enterprise Zone designation has played a vital role <br />in promoting the expansion of existing firms as well as the location <br />of new firms within Martinsville and Henry County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Enterprise Zone incentives have significantly <br />contributed to the area's marketing efforts through which a number <br />of jobs have been created to offset jobs lost due to plant closures, <br />downsizing, modernization, and other factors affecting the local <br />economy; and <br />WHEREAS, in order to maintain the Enterprise Zone Program <br />maximum acreage limit, Henry County plans to delete <br />approximately 309 acres of under-utilized land from its West Zone; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Henry County desires to extend coverage of its East <br />Zone to include 604 acres of the recently expanded Patriot Centre <br />at Beaver Creek and to extend coverage of its West Zone to <br />include a 69-acre industrial tract along Rives Road. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Martinsville City <br />Council, in regular session assembled on August 24, 1999, that it <br />does hereby support Henry County's application for an amendment <br />to expand the East and West Enterprise Zones. <br /> <br />Mayor Crabtree opened the Public Hearing regarding the possible adoption of <br /> <br />Ordinances on a request by Annie Bell King to rezone 907 Morgan Street from R-9 <br /> <br />Residential to C-1 Commercial, and to amend the City's Land Use Map to indicate the <br /> <br /> <br />
